Founded in 2004, Penelope started her leather footwear business from her kitchen table. Penelope Chilvers soon became a sought after brand and her first style, the classic Long Tassel Boots, were featured on the front page of national newspapers worn by Kate Middleton, the duchess of Cambridge.
The collections have since grown to include iconic styles, such as the Incredible Boot and the Impossible Boot, both highly sought after urban snow boots, the distinctive and flamboyant Dandy slipper and enduring artesian Goodyear welted leather-soled boots and shoes. Authentically made espadrilles incorporate traditional Catalan methods and are the mainstay of the summer collection.
The brand immediately enjoyed success in the local wholesale market and has grown today to have over 100 accounts throughout the UK, USA, Europe, Far East, Australia and New Zealand and enjoys a strong celebrity and high profile fashion following.
Penelope Chilvers has
gained a reputation for superb quality, comfort and effortless style. PC
styles become “wardrobe staples” or “old friends”; the dog walking
boot, the easy espadrille, the
quintessential Chelsea boot, and the warmest winter snow boot.
Penelope Chilvers designs footwear and accessories to fall in love – and stay in love - with. Combining contemporary, fashion led design with enduring style and traditional craftsmanship, Penelope Chilvers produces timeless, made to last pieces that work seamlessly with each season’s trends.
Penelope Chilvers is passionate about using natural materials of the highest quality. The majority of winter boots are constructed on 100% leather Goodyear welted soles and summer espadrilles are authentically made using natural jute. Traditional techniques in leather are always nurtured and continue to inspire.
“It's about going with the grain and not against it” Penelope says, “and when it comes to leather, I like to enhance its natural texture, and
imperfections - nothing is uniform - each piece is unique and only improves with age.”
Penelope’s passion in local sourcing and protecting local industry is what keeps the brand so authentic. She endeavours to source each and every component in a design, which is then crafted by hand, using traditional methods, ensuring the durability of each of the brand’s styles. Penelope Chilvers give utmost importance to building long lasting relationships with factories and suppliers and fair wages and good working conditions are a minimum requirement.
“I have been fortunate to meet wonderful people with rare skills; some of which are dying away. I have learnt from the best and
work closely with artisans who have taught me my trade.”
